Database Management

This panel contains the list of all databases linked to C&D Puzzle, valid or not. These databases can come from a Carticque database or a personal map.

Each database is represented by default by :

  • "Name of the database [Name of the CDROM - version number of the CDROM]" if the database comes from a Carticque CDROM
  • "Name of the file [Personal Map]" if the database comes from a personal map

When a database is selected in the list, the text area located under the list contains the path to the configuration file of the database.

You can switch the databases round by moving them vertically in the list.

Automatic loading of databases

C&D Puzzle will examine all the subfolders in its preference folder at launching and will link itself to the databases that it will found.

In the same way, once you have linked C&D Puzzle to a Carticque database, it will keep the database path in memory and therefore will show it on next starts.

The non-valid databases

If C&D Puzzle can't load a database (for example because it was linked to the Carticque France CDROM and the CDROM is not in the drive anymore), then the name of this database will be shown in red, and if you select it in the list you can see an error message explaining the problem.

The action buttons

A click on this button opens a panel that enables you to choose the folder in which is located the Carticque database you want to link to C&D Puzzle. This folder must contain a "dataset" file (or a "config" file for old Carticques) describing the database.

Once the folder has been choosen, the databases from the Carticque are automatically added in the list.

Example:
There are two possible ways for linking C&D Puzzle to Carticque France 2007:

  • Insert your Carticque France 2007 CDROM in your drive, then click on the button and select your CDROM drive.
The drawback of this method is that you must put your CDROM in your drive for the next use of C&D Puzzle on these databases.
  • Create a new folder on your hard disk (for example "c:\articque\CarticqueFrance2007"), and copy the contents of the Carticque France 2007 CDROM in this folder. Click on the button and select this new folder.
The advantage of this method is that your CDROM is not needed for the next use of C&D Puzzle on these databases.

A click on this button opens the standard panel for choosing a file. Choose the map from which you want C&D Puzzle to create a new database.

The database will be created in the C&D Puzzle preferences folder, "My Documents\articque\cdpuzzle_5.0" by default, and will have as folder name the name of the choosen file. Then four files will be automatically generated in this new folder, allowing C&D Puzzle to be linked to this personal database.

Then this new database is automatically added in the list, under the form "Name of the file [Personal Map]".

This database will be automatically loaded each time C&D Puzzle starts because it will examine all the subfolders in its application folder at launching and will link itself to the databases that it will found.

This button enables to rename the selected database.
Attention, each database name must be single in the list.

This button allows you to modify the folder of the selected database.
For example, if C&D Puzzle was linked to a database which path on your hard disk has changed, you just have to indicate the new path of this database thanks to this button.

This button enables to remove the selected database from the list.

Each Carticque CDROM contains in general several databases. When you link C&D Puzzle to a Carticque CDROM, each database is then linked apart from the others. For example with the Carticque France CDROM version 2, the 6 databases will be shown in the list but thanks to this button you can choose to keep the only databases you're interested in.
