Generate map of the selected area

There are four steps :

1) Choosing the database

The list located at the top of the screen allows you to choose the database on which you want to work:

This list only contains the valid databases. You can manage the databases list by clicking on the button.

Attention, if you change the database, your complete selection is cancelled.

2) Choosing the inside level

Before selecting the desired entities, you must specify the inside level to be used. According to the database selected, the list at the bottom of the screen contains the available inside levels : communes, regions, countries...

This choice will determine the level of detail used for the extraction. Whatever your selection, the map produced is extracted from just one map : the one corresponding to your choice of inside level.

For example, in using the Metropole database from the Carticque France 2007 CDROM, if you select the Aquitaine region:

• with an inside level by departements, your custom map will be the Aquitaine by departements.
• with an inside level by communes, your custom map will be Aquitaine by communes.

3) Entities selection

There are three possible ways for selecting entities:

• by list and map : the names and identifiers of the elements contained in the database are displayed in columns, and the corresponding map appears. Selections are made using the mouse pointer : you click directly in the columns or in the map on the elements you are interested in.
• by file : an external file contains a list of identifiers corresponding to the elements to be extracted from the database. Several maps can be created at the same time.
• by keyboard : you enter directly the identifiers of the elements to be extracted from the database.

4) Map generation

You just have to click on the button.

In the case of selection by file, a window opens to enable you to choose the folder in which all the maps are to be created.
In the other cases, it is the standard file saving box that pops up. Choose a name and a location for your map.

If you have C&D Puzzle Universel, you can export your map in different formats.
Otherwise, the only allowed export format is VXF.

The map thus created can be used with all the softwares in the Cartes & Données Software Suite. It only contains the selected entities, depending on the inside level that you have opted for.
